Activities from land down under set for Australia month

A series of cultural, educational and sports activities are set to take place in Vietnam from Jan. 19 to Feb. 4, hailing Australian National Day on Jan. 26.

On Jan. 19, a ceremony will deliver scholarships ranging from A$25,000 to A$195,000 from the “Australia Endeavour Scholarship Awards” for 17 Vietnamese to attend short educational training terms, masters or doctoral studies in Australia.

Vietnamese talents will be among 19,000 Asian-Pacific recipients of the scholarships, worth A$1.4 billion.

On Jan. 21, organizers of a scientific innovation contest for Vietnamese high school students namely “Eureka – Challenge Your Mind Contest” will award the winners at the Hanoi-based National Universitys library.

Started in 1999, the contest this year has resulted in 502 inventions and developed 20 products.

Also on the same day, Australian Education International (AEI) Agency in Vietnam will open a seven-day exhibition on photos from a contest entitled “Australia – A Lifelong Exprience” which describes the lives of the overseas Vietnamese students in Australia.

Earlier, on Jan. 13, the Australian Embassy to Vietnam will hold a tennis championship for former overseas Vietnamese students, and those who are studying at Australian schools or educational centers in Vietnam.

In addition, a show of six Australian features and six short films will be organized from Jan. 20 to Feb. 4 in nine cities and provinces – Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and northern Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Sa Pa, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, and Cao Bang.
