French band to rock Hanoi

French rock band Astonvilla will perform in Hanoi next month, offering Vietnamese fans a chance to learn more about French rock-and-roll.

The four-member band, comprising Fred (vocalist), Djib (bass player), Greg Baudier (drummer) and Manu Baroux (guitarist), will take the stage at the Youth Theatre on May 9.

Coming together in 1994 in the suburbs of Paris, Astonvilla released its first album in 1996 and the second, Extraversion, in 1999, which helped raise its profile.

In 2001 the recording of Live acoustic included tracks from the first two albums in a more stripped and intimate version, closer to their original concept: guitar-voice.

Tracks like Raisonne and Si les Anges eventually hit the national media and reached a large audience.

Astonvilla was named Best Newcomer in a public poll in March 2002 in the French equivalent of the Grammy Awards, Victoires de la Musique.

Aston Villa’s catchy style of melodic rock makes them one of the most original groups on the current French scene.
