Locals crushed by Chinese team in Asian football competition
Local football team Binh Duong appeared to bid farewell to the AFC Champions League with a dismal 0-5 defeat to Chinese side Changchun Yatai last night.
Binh Duong, one of Vietnams leading teams, seemed to play without dignity.
Their attacking efforts were painfully slow and faulted due to inaccurate passes.
They conceded three goals within the first 37 minutes, two of which came from failing in an off-side trap.
Their best opportunity in the first half did not result in a goal as Anh Duc mishandled the ball while facing off against the Changchun goal-keeper in the 36th minute.
In the rest of the game, Binh Duong struggled to even approach the opponents box.
Meanwhile, Changchun knew how to exploit Binh Duongs defensive mistakes.
Two minutes in from the starting whistle, Wang Bo gave Changchun the lead with a free header from Du Zhen Yus tailor-made corner kick.
The four remaining Changchun goals were scored in the 13th, 37th, 78th and 91st minutes.
The game appeared to brighten for Binh Duong when Philani and Tran Truong Giang replaced Anh Duc and Van Linh.
However, these two midfielders were just enough for Binh Duong to increase ball possession rather than obtain real scoring chances.
Changchun kept the game moving and had changed into a counter-attacking style when they scored their fourth goal.
Midfielder Yan Feng curved in a beautiful free-kick to give the team a 4-goal lead just 12 minutes from time.
The big win over Binh Duong has helped Changchun Yatai maintain their qualifying hopes.
The teams will meet again in two weeks time which will give Binh Duong a final chance to prove they are not just goal-suppliers for the rest of the group.
But maybe bowing out early will be good for Binh Duong so they can concentrate on domestic competitions.
After the match, Binh Duongs coach Le Thuy Hai said Changchun did not play like I expected they would in a first leg. Binh Duong was exhausted as they have such a disastrous playing rhythm at the moment. We will go back to the V-League with more realistic targets.
