Pre-paid mobile user registration via SMS and website cancelled
Vietnam will tighten management of pre-paid mobile service users.

VietNamNetBridge Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on September 25 approved the Ministry of Information and Communications proposal to stop registration of pre-paid mobile service users via text messages and websites.
At the MoICs request to tighten management of pre-paid mobile service users, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Public Security to urgently build an electronic database on identity cards to serve the verification of personal information declared by pre-paid mobile subscribers.
While waiting for the databases completion, registration via text message and online registration will be stopped, perhaps as of October 2008. Instead, subscribers will have to directly register at service providers offices.
For subscribers who have registered already, their information will be checked on the database of the Ministry of Public Security.
