Vietnam authorities impound hydrofoil after fatal accident

Police in Vietnams northern Quang Ninh province seized Monday the hydrofoil involved in a fatal collision with a cargo ship last Friday and detained its navigator, Nguyen Dung, for questioning.

The smash occurred near Mong Cai town when the hydrofoil with 30 people aboard, arriving from nearby Ha Long City, crashed into the vessel reportedly due to poor visibility.

Two Chinese tourists and one Korean were killed in the accident and 18 others injured.

The bodies of Chinese were sent home Monday after an official from that country arrived in Vietnam. Four other Chinese visitors were injured.

The Korean was identified by his relatives and cremated in Quang Ninh province.

Of the 18 injured in the accident, 14 have been discharged with the other four reportedly in stable condition at the Quang Ninh General Hospital.
