Vietnam carrier sponsors APEC meeting

Vietnam Airlines will offer free tickets and fare cuts worth US$100,000 for delegates and others attending the APEC CEO Summit to be held in Hanoi in November.

It has signed a sponsorship deal with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the summit organizer, under which it will offer these privileges to participants, organizers, and foreign news correspondents who arrive to cover the event.

Aviation authorities too have been busy, sprucing up Hanois Noi Bai Airport, expanding its apron to accommodate 50 planes, and equipping its international terminal with more security equipment.

The Northern Airport Authority said that security at airports had been tightened and that a bomb drill would be held in mid-October.

There have been three false bomb alarms aboard Vietnam Airlines flights in the past six months, all raised by thoughtless pranksters.
