Vietnam side chalks up first win in ASEAN Champions League 2005

Vietnam club Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) yesterday earned its first points at the Southeast Asian Champions League 2005 campaign in Brunei after thrashing Cambodian Nagacorp 5-1.

HAGL came from behind to score five in the July 24 clash in Brunei against the tournaments weakest side. Most of the game took place on the Cambodian side of the field, causing HAGL to give up the opening goal on a counterattack.

In the 23rd minute, Michael Thach Nen gave Nagacorp its first and only lead of the game.

The joy was short lived, as HAGL regained its composure, and stretched out the Cambodian defensive through the middle.

In the 35th minute, Thai-born Dusit Chalermsan from HAGL blasted a goal from the doorstep on a set up from compatriot Kiatisak Senamuang to level the game at 1.

The Vietnam side continued relentless attacks as Van Dan, Dinh Viet, Kiatisak and Vimon Juncun scored four more, on to a 5-1 final.

HAGL now goes on to face Zebra from East Timor on July 26.
