– Employees in domestic and foreign-invested enterprises will see their monthly minimum salaries go up as of January 1, 2009 following the Governments decrees dated on October 10, 2008. Accordingly, workers in domestic businesses will enjoy monthly minimum salaries of VND800,000, VND740,000, VND690,000 and VND650,000, depending on the region they work in. The figures for those in foreign-invested enterprises will be VND1.2 million, VND1.08 million, VND950,000 and VND920,000, respectively. The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) says that most enterprises have made plans to adjust their payment, collect workers ideas and make public information about the increase in their monthly salaries. The adjustments demonstrate the Governments determination to improve living conditions for workers, especially low-income earners, in an effort to ensure social welfare and stabilize macro-economy.
